When Connor and Keith contacted me to photograph their Washington Park Boathouse LGBTQ wedding photos I was ecstatic, to put it mildly. However, I initially turned down their inquiry because I had a wedding the day before in St. Louis and I was afraid I wouldn’t make it back on time, but their inquiry was just too hard to resist. They were nerds and looking for a nerd-friendly and LGBTQ-friendly photographer in Denver. I was the perfect fit, so we made it work and luckily my red-eye flight that morning, followed by an airport parking lot car nap suited the weekend just fine, and their wedding went off fantastically.
First, the Harry Potter wedding elements they incorporated made this geek’s day. Not only did they have boutonnieres and corsages handmade from the pages of the books themselves, but they also brought brooms and a snitch. Then they played a mini Quidditch game for me to photograph. Wedding Quidditch is every Harry Potter nerd photographer’s dream.
However, the wedding wasn’t about fulfilling all my Harry Potter wedding themed adventures; it was about Connor and Keith who are ridiculously awesome people. You can read some of their story on Men’s Vows where their wedding was featured shortly after it happened last year.
Their ceremony was a great tribute to friends and family. Their wedding party carried in each part of their small altar to put it together for them, and the ceremony was also full of toasts from the audience. By the time we got to photos and dancing everyone was having a great time. Everyone drank great beer, the desserts were terrific, the dancing was a blast, and it was one of those weddings where I wish I had been a guest because everyone had so much fun.
