Katie and Matt got married just a couple weeks ago in at Golden Gate Canyon State Park, just outside of Golden. They have this amazing red barn picnic area that makes for a perfect outdoor wedding. There’s shelter in case of bad weather, bathrooms nearby, an outdoor playground and a gorgeous grove of aspens you can use for outdoor ceremonies as well. It’s one of my favorite places to photograph because you can get all that outdoor sense, but be in a local state park instead of a big fancy venue. You get a lot more freedom to decorate and have the wedding you always wanted.
Because the weather looked a bit threatening, Katie and Matt moved the ceremony just slightly inside the barn area in case of rain and it made for a romantic look with fairy lights and the smell of fresh hay. One of my favorite little decorations was all the little daisies and flowers stuck in every nook and cranny around the barn. It brought me back to a time I never lived it and made the wedding feel casual, cute and free! Even though it never really rained, Matt made us all tear up a bit during the ceremony, and during his dance with his mom. The sweet thing about a groom comfortable crying is that means he’s truly at home in his own skin. No judgements. It made us all melt. I also teared up when Katie danced with her dad to Kermit singing, ‘Rainbow Connection.’ My husband loves Kermit and, of course, being pregnant I get all the extra emotions ever made at the moment.
We ended the evening with some gorgeous sunny shots before the cloud cover came in again for good. So happy for these two and their future together. You could feel how much they love each other every minute of the day and I love when weddings leave you with that warm fuzzy feeling inside.
