When I pulled into the driveway at this private AirBnB rental for Liz and Jeremy’s Grand Mesa wedding, it was the perfect late September Day. I had my window down as I parked and Jeremy came running up to me from the long driveway telling me I could get prime parking right up next to their reception tent to unload. Obviously, prime parking real estate is hard to come by at weddings, especially for vendors sometimes, and most especially for photographers who are 6+ months pregnant at the time. I followed him up and I think I got the best spot in the house. It was the easiest unloading ever.
This was a day I had been looking forward to for a long time. Liz and Jeremy were super fun at their engagement session and I knew the day would be relaxed and fun with all their dogs and family around. Plus, who doesn’t love Mexican for dinner? If you’ve never driven up the Grand Mesa near Grand Junction, Colorado you’ve never experienced a really unique spot. It’s like alpine Colorado meets a huge flattop mountain. As you approach the small town (Mesa) coming from I-70 you can see the mesa top behind it, and Powderhorn’s ski slopes through the aspen trees. The only times I’ve ever had the pleasure of being up on the Grand Mesa have been in Fall, so I love the drive filled with colorful trees. For this wedding, the drive made the perfect backdrop. As we went through the day I couldn’t wait to take a little excursion up to Mesa Lakes further up the mountain so we could get some fantastic lake scenery with the Fall color. In Colorado we call it Fall “color” and not “colors” because we aren’t blessed with the plethora of golds, oranges, and reds some places get. The trees mostly go from green to yellow and that’s about it. Once we got up to the lakes to do portraits we got the goddess of Fall must have been looking down upon us because she gave us the lakes, the tree color, AND…one of the most gorgeous golden hour sunset time frames I’ve been gifted with this year. When I see their portraits up there I feel like I can smell the Fall leaves, and should just run home and have hot cider while watching Hocus Pocus.
Anyway, congratulations to Liz and Jeremy who had one of the best Fall weddings, filled with casual fun (a gorgeous dress), and dogs. I’d do it all again!
