Laura and Peter are one of the sweetest couples, so having them out toward my part of Colorado for their Colorado National Monument engagement photos was a treat. We started out the evening meeting at Hot Tomato for pizza and beer. One of the downsides of living in a remote mountain area is that I don’t get to meet my clients prior to photographing them. While we can chat on the phone or jump on a Skype call to “meet,” it’s just not the same as hanging out and getting to know my clients in person. That’s one of the reasons I love doing engagement sesions. It gives me the opportunity to get to know my clients before their wedding.
However, it can still be a bit awkward to just meet up somewhere with a stranger in the outdoors, usually where there is no phone service, and start photographing. So, instead I like to take my clients out for dinner before we shoot. Or sometimes, they take me (for which I’m eternally grateful). One of my favorite spots to meet clients out here is Hot Tomato, where we can get some divine pizza (and even gluten free pizza too). I met Laura and Peter before their shoot for some food before we jumped in their car and drove up into the monument, which is close by. I got to claim the back seat with their dog Mia for the ride. I’m always the photographer in the back seat with my clients’ dogs and I love every second of it.
So, we drove around, did some photos and Mia was even a bit scared of the clif edge…as she should be! It was a great evening and the kind of engagement session I could do a thousand times over! Laura and Peter have since been married and you can check out their Boettcher Mansion wedding >here.<
