Katie and Matt are probably about as ridiculous as I am when it comes to loving Winter. They met me up on Douglass Pass for their Grand Junction Winter engagement photos. Winter engagement photos are not for every couple. In fact, I often recommend we do not take engagement photos in Winter. While the snow can look so romantic and amazing, you can’t tell how cold it is until you’re standing in it for an hour or an hour and a half and your socks are frozen to your toes. Winter engagement sessions are for the most tough people – it’s for the folks who don’t care how cold it is – they can be all cozy and loving anyway.
It’s just tough to get out there in the cold and be cute if you’re freezing. Not everyone can do it. I doubt I could, so I’m glad Katie and Matt were up for meeting me on the top of a mountain pass where it was so windy – we were guaranteed to freeze our butts off. I brought my little camping stove in the back of my Subaru. We had hot cocoa made in the back of my car before starting our shoot, which helped us feel right at home when the windchill was ridiculously cold. It was such a fun shoot though and I loved that Katie and Matt were pretty much up for anything, including us digging their car out when it got a bit stuck. They also brought camping chairs so they could act like this was all totally normal. It really was for them! Can’t wait to show you their amazingly adorable small wedding from later in the Summer!
