Dianne and Dan’s Ouray wedding photos up at Yankee Boy Basin are especially close to my heart. One of the things I fight against in the wedding industry is all the sameness we have. Wedding marketing is made for traditional weddings and thin, white and straight people. It’s not made for anyone else. If you don’t fit in the confines of those things, it’s incredibly hard to find people who look like you, or think the way you do in the wedding world. Dianne struggled with finding vendors and services that matched her less traditional approach and shared a lot of that with me. The wedding moved locations and things finally changed until she found her perfect dress, perfect vendors and perfect location.
At the wedding they only had a few of their closest friends and family in attendance. Dianne’s son also attended. The roads up to Yankee Boy Basin require a 4×4 on its best days and thankfully we rode up with the two of them easily. It’s such a crazy road that I would never feel confident enough to drive it myself, even in my beloved Subaru.
After their quick ceremony, we celebrated with cupcakes and champagne out of the back of the truck. There was a lot of laughing and hanging out, taking group photos before everyone headed back down to their hotel to get ready for dinner. Then that’s when we did couples photos before heading back ourselves. Thankfully, Dianne and Dan invited us to join them for their awesome dinner afterward and we felt not just like friends, but like part of their family. I’m so grateful I got to work with these two and be part of Dianne’s journey to having their perfect day!
